LESS REACHING. MORE DOING.

Mac shortcuts,
within reach.

Find the action. Learn the keys. Make it second nature.
A thoughtful little guide to the shortcuts worth remembering.

Your next small habit

Find almost anything.
Without finding your mouse.

Try “screenshot”, “move a file”, or “⌘ space”. Press / to search.

Start with the essentials

Small habits. A noticeable difference.

A QUICK TRANSLATION

Read the keys.
Keep the flow.

Hold the modifier keys, press the final key, then release. A “then” means a separate step, not another key to hold.

⌘
CommandThe main modifier for most app shortcuts.
⌥
OptionAlso called Alt. Often offers an alternative action.
⌃
ControlA different key from Command — not a direct Ctrl replacement.
⇧
ShiftOften reverses direction or extends a selection.
fn
Fn / GlobeChanges a key’s function. Fn–Delete deletes forward.
⌫
DeleteOn a MacBook, normally deletes backward — like Backspace.

The keyboard picture is illustrative QWERTY. Either matching modifier key works; only one is highlighted. Symbols and positions can differ with your input source.

On Mac, ⌘ W closes a window or tab; ⌘ Q quits the app. That distinction is worth learning early.

THE SMALL PRINT, KEPT SMALL

Useful, with context.

Sources, not guesswork

These entries were curated against Apple’s documentation on . Each shortcut links to its source. Windows comparisons are the closest familiar workflow, not promises of identical behavior.

Your Mac has the final say

Shortcuts depend on macOS, the app, keyboard input source and custom settings — not the chip name. Check the app’s menus or System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts when something differs.

This page shows the keys; it does not run system actions or try to capture every shortcut. Only /, outside a text field, is used to focus this guide’s search.

Local means this browser

Favorites, theme and the Windows display option are stored only under this guide’s own local-storage key. They are not sent to a server or synced to another device. Clearing this site’s browser data can remove them.

There are no accounts, analytics, advertising or third-party assets. Normal hosting access logs may still record page requests. Opening a source link takes you to that provider’s website.

A reference you can print

Print uses the current filtered list. Choose All shortcuts first if you want the full guide. This is an independent reference, not an Apple product.
